Paul Jebanasam (Continuum A/V)

Paul Jebanasam

As co-director of Bristol label Subtext alongside Roly Porter and James Ginzburg (Emptyset), Sri Lankan-born ambient producer Paul Jebanasam explores the terrain where modern classical music meets grime and industrial. His 2016 album Continuum counts as the definitive statement of his career so far, a collection of compositions inspired by celestial events, algorithmic action and cellular behaviour, fused with a tonal grandeur and an ever-present sense of chaos. Paul Jebanasam started his career in Sydney, producing as one half of dubstep outfit Moving Ninja. After relocating to Bristol and joining Subtext he issued the albums Music For The Church Of St. John The Baptist, a live recording with string players, and Rites, both of which were influenced by liturgical and modern classical music as well as dark ambient and metal. ‘One of several Bristol-based musicians blurring boundaries between contemporary composition, process-based recording and the colossal physicality of sound-system culture’ (The Quietus).
