**Enrico Malatesta** is an Italian percussionist and sound researcher active in the fields of experimental music, sound intervention and performance.

His practice explores the relations between sound, space and body, the vitality of materials and the morphology of surfaces with particular attention to percussive acts, touch based-perception, and modes of listening. Since 2007 Malatesta has presented his work with tours across Europe, Brazil, South Korea, Japan, UK, North America and Russia, and has performed in festivals and special events in venues such as Pirelli HangarBicocca in Milan, Berghain in Berlin, and MAM in Rio de Janeiro.

The work of Brussels-based sound artist and researcher Lukas de Clerck as **Bloedneus & de Snuitkever** is centred around the Aulous, an ancient-Greek double reeded double pipe extinct for over a millenia. 

This speculative reimagining of the Aulous is inevitably auto-didactic, and De Clerk engages in both solo and collaborative forays into these sound-worlds. In both his solo performances as Bloedneus & de Snuitkever — and as part of the duo Ï Î with the violist Victor Guaita Igual  — De Clerck embraces the tension between the extra and the ordinary. Through his use of recognizable, almost everyday sounds, and by putting actions like gargling, whistling and sneezing in an artistic context, De Clerck creates connections between the audience and its spatial environment.

Bloedneus & de Snuitkever

The work of Mexican-American producer, engineer and composer **Delia Beatriz**, AKA **Debit**, drifts seamlessly from avant-garde and drone modes into experimental dance music without hesitation.

As a DJ, her selections burn the unmistakable swing of Latin club music into ironclad techno frameworks. Using research she made into Mayan wind instruments and machine learning devices, Beatriz developed digital instruments consisting of whistles, ocarinas, flutes and trumpets, harnessing these techniques to compose music that feels completely out of time. Debit’s second album _The Long Count_ was released on legendary British imprint Modern Love earlier this year.

**Maria Komarova** is a Belarusian interdisciplinary artist working on the fields of sound, performance, scenography and installation.

Komarova’s spatial work fosters a sense of curiosity and attention in the everyday; repurposing and emphasising the sonic and visual potential of commonplace objects through her installations. In her performances, Komarova works with DIY electro-acoustic instruments and found objects, letting them temporarily inhabit the site and interact with each other. Currently based in Prague, Komarova is a co-founder of the theatre collective _PYL_, _Performensk Festival_ in Belarus, and a member of the _band kaine anung_.

**séverine** is the moniker of multidisciplinary artist Christiane Øyen.

Born and raised in Long Beach California, her work traverses the familiar and the far-flung — absorbing and sublimating sounds and sensations from deep within and high above. Released in 2022, _Dawn of the Coastal DJ_ is a collection of precisely calibrated club concoctions — each track seeing disparate soundworlds fission and fuse like research chemicals combining to form new consciousness-warping compounds. From euphoric trance and sleazy electroclash, to cerebral techno intertwined with gratuitous club bangers, one can always expect to hear at least one poptimistic dancefloor-ready blend within her set. séverine leads DIY rave collective Xtended Release, an LA-based party that has paired local talent alongside international artists including Dis Fig, DJ G2G, Jasmine Infiniti and Ariel Zetina.

Marked by mesmeric forays into experimental production and challenging soundscapes, the music of **Ausschuss** seeks to reshape the club — not simply as a dancefloor — but as a space to inhabit. 

Emerging in 2014 through a series of self-releases, bootlegs and a residency on Berlin Community Radio, Ausschuss’ expansive approach has seen him perform in venues such as Berghain and Macao Milan alongside working with labels like CANVAS and Perpetual Care. A member of London label Circadian Rhythms, following the release of his debut EP _Room1_ in 2018, Ausschuss has expanded his practice through scoring and composition work, contributing mixes for the likes of CXEMA, AFFXWRKS and Berlin's Leisure Systems. Ausschuss released _Cruise_ on MAL Recordings in 2021.

Sonic Acts Biennial 2022 attended to questions of non-linear time, entangled ecologies, and pollution through an expansive exhibition, a provocative sound art programme, and an interdisciplinary symposium. What does it mean to place narrative limitations on oil, where infinity is assumed? Commissioned by Sonic Acts, _OBIT_ by **Maryam Monalisa Gharavi** and **Sam Lavigne** can now be streamed online, after having been first exhibited in the form of an installation as part of the exhibition _one sun after another_ during Sonic Acts Biennial 2022. 

Drawing from semi-public databases containing the dates drilling began and the dates wells were abandoned, the work unscrolls the ‘birth’ and ‘death’ of all abandoned oil wells in the U.S., generating a ‘public obituary’ of oil. The ‘finality’ of _OBIT_ coincides with the flood of information each unit measures, or 314,452 total dead wells. Seemingly infinite, the work encloses and gives finitude via a closed scroll and text, placing appropriate narrative limitations on oil where infinity is assumed.

The multinational, multiconglomerate oil industry divulges myriad streams of data about its operations, which when looked at in both the macro (314,452 oil well deaths) and micro (distinct obituaries for each one) yield surprising and discordant findings. _OBIT_ synthesizes ‘oily’ data that reveals its own significance the very moment it is divulged. Through scraping, a technique developed by Sam Lavigne, it seeks data from within its own knowledge domains and industry collection sites. 


A former OVEREXPOSED resident, **Maryam Monalisa Gharavi** has been collaborating and working with Sonic Acts for several years. As an artist, poet, and theorist whose work deals with the paradoxes of our interactions with matter and immateriality, she explores the interplay between aesthetic and political valances. With _OBIT_, Gharavi works alongside artist and educator **Sam Lavigne** to dive deeper into the ‘twin’ extractive commodities of oil and data. Lavigne’s work plugs into the interlocking interfaces of data, surveillance and policing, as well as natural language processing and automation. Harnessing digital tools to perform online interventions, Lavigne brings to light the often opaque political and economic conditions moulding computational technologies.

Following their installation as part of Sonic Acts Biennial 2022 exhibition _one sun after another_, **MELT** (**Ren Loren Britton** and **Iz Paehr**) invite listeners and readers to join their online guided meditation _presence-past presence-present presence-future_. As part of _never odd or even_, the ongoing project for their Sonic Acts OVEREXPOSED residency, MELT feel into futures in which Trans* and disabled presences might be fully embraced, dreaming towards being in time differently. 


Commissioned by Sonic Acts, _never odd or even_ explores multiple overlapping perspectives on numerous temporalities. As the project unfolds in various stages and formats, this latest development presents an online meditation for a plurality of joyful Trans* and disabled futures. _presence-past presence-present presence-future_ looks to futurity in non-normative, non-linear time. Sen(s)(d)ing desires, wishes, and intentions, MELT tunes towards timelines that instead of writing Trans* and disabled folks out of time, make presence a present for them to thrive in and bend the clock. 


As you click along, time stretches into the past through collective and ancestral memories and into the future with meditations for Trans* and Disabled futures. When we travel time as disabled and Trans* people, when do we go? What if ableism and binary gender mattered less, and had less pull on our shared spacetime? When we sync with crip spacetime, we move what matters towards a plurality of joyful disabled and Trans* futures. 


Presented as well as part of the exhibition _one sun after another_ during Sonic Acts Biennial 2022 in the form of an installation and a guided meditation, _presence-past presence-present presence-future_ invited visitors into non-linearity, loops, circles, palindromes, discontinuities, slowness, and attention to pace within their time.

Over the past few weeks, through thought-provoking interventions, experimental sound performances, and critical discussions, Sonic Acts Biennial 2022 asked how we can care, collectively and despite the exhaustion of energies, for what we cannot see or understand. Attuning and responding to ecological thinking, the Biennial interweaved an exhibition, performances, lectures, sound installations, artist presentations, workshops, excursions, and many more activities, engaging with the urgency of pollution in different and multi-faceted ways.


We would like to thank everybody who attended and engaged with the Biennial during this time.
