It’s almost time for Sonic Acts Academy 2018 to begin. While there’ll be lots of music for you to enjoy throughout the Academy, you can already immerse yourself in some of the sounds by digging into our Spotify playlist.
The Academy’s club programme includes two nights of Progress Bar at Paradiso Noord, Tolhuistuin, as Friday's lineup basks in a shared sense of noise and alienation – with Violence, Dreamcrusher, Kilbourne and Swan Meat, among many other artists – and Saturday's revels in collectivity, lifting us to the sounds of Lisbon, Brazil and New Jersey, with artists including DJ Haram, Linn da Quebrada and DJ Lycox.
A number of musical performances will mark the rest of the programme: Swedish-American sound artist Catherine Christer Hennix performs at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam; and two collaborative audiovisual performances adorn the opening evening at Dansmakers, with Jennifer Walshe and Mario de Vega, and Marija Bozinovska Jones and J.G. Biberkopf. During the Symposium, also at Dansmakers, we'll hear from and unpack the processes of a number of artists whose work connects sound with broader issues, including Moor Mother and EVOL’s Roc Jiménez de Cisneros.
