Femi Shonuga-Fleming (Sadnoise)

Architect and Sound Artist

Femi Shonuga-Fleming (Sadnoise) is an architect and sound artist from New York who works with handmade synthesizers and live coding languages. Using these tools, he explores the organic within electronics and technology through sound art, installation, and composition. His practice examines how sound and space intersect as an experimental field, focusing on generative systems and the textures that emerge within sonic landscapes.

His architectural work investigates indigenous ritual as a vessel for dialogue between sound, space, and the body. Since 2018, Shonuga-Fleming has performed solo experimental electronic improvisations under the name Sadnoise, with appearances at Ende Tymes 12, AMIS 2025, and Creative Code Festival, among others. Sadnoise gives thanks to and acknowledges indigenous land, traditions, and philosophy, as well as the ground beneath our feet.

Femi Shonuga-Fleming was a resident at Sonic Acts’ Spatial Sound Residency in 2025.
