Imvisage

Composers and Sound Collectors

Imvisage is the collaborative project of electroacoustic composers, improvisers, and sound collectors Antoine Alcaraz and Theo Fernandez. One manipulates isolated fragments of vinyl records, the other works with sound memories recorded on a Revox tape recorder.

Theo Fernandez is a sound artist and graduate of the INA GRM master’s programme in Musical Creation. His practice maintains a tactile, sculptural approach to sound, defined by the attentive collection of recordings that evolve over time. Working primarily with reel-to-reel tape recorders, he treats tape not as a medium of restoration but of continual deformation. Since 2020, he has also contributed to the design and fabrication of electronic instruments at Cyma Forma. Antoine Alcaraz is an electroacoustic composer with a background in percussion and improvisation. Alongside his acousmatic compositions, he explores the translation of visual and poetic works into sound, using them as scores for evocative musical narratives. A member of the Plor collective, he also produces and performs under the alias ICI MTN, creating deep techno through live sets and DJ performances.

Together, they merge the hypnotic pulse of grooves with the unpredictability of turntable and tape manipulation, composing and performing an experimental techno that evokes a distorted déjà vu – a shared, altered memory.
